About Mr. Robert Shaw
Our school was named in honor of Mr. Robert Shaw, a devoted and outstanding citizen in the Scottdale, Georgia community.  As a pioneer in education, he acquired and donated 11 acres of land upon which the school now stands.  This was one of his major contributions to the cause of education.  The land was donated in 1951, and construction began in 1954.  The school welcomed 741 students in 1955 and was dedicated on December 11, 1955.

The efforts of Mr. Shaw had a profound impact on the citizens of Scottdale.  He encouraged citizens to register to vote and was committed to developing a well-educated community.  Robert Shaw Elementary School, built for the Scottdale community, continues to serve the community in the 21st century.
